The momentous Vicktor Taiwò
At the end of December 2014, we listed Vicktor Taiwò as one of the male acts to keep an eye out for in 2015, and sure enough, the vulnerable and yet enigmatic London-based singer is proving to be a momentous artist.
Three months ago he released his heavy-hearted track ‘Faded’, a truly artful fusion of bitter-sweet lyrics with a distinctive and sombre synth-R&B sound that has you disappear into it from the start. Vicktor himself has stated that the track is a one-off and should not be interpreted or as a representation of his future sounds. Nevertheless, his honesty in releasing the track is exactly the type of unguardedness found in each of his songs and precisely what makes his music so remarkable.
One of the many beauties of this song in particular is Taiwò’s incredible ability to grab a tight grip on the words of a fading love without struggling over details. He strips down the inner-workings of this love story, elegantly presenting the bare essentials in a way that truly makes every word matter.
His five track EP ‘JUNO’ was released on the 16th of June, and only last week he released a solemn video rendition of ‘Curse’.
