The BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge is a major hit-and-miss experience.

It’s a huge gig on the promo run for any act, and some just don’t have the time in their schedules to properly construct a genuinely good cover song, and therefore deliver sub-par performance which end up sounding like a really dodgy and worryingly sober karaoke.

Others however, including Sam Smith, do see the value in striving to nail a classic song and manage to carve out the time in the diary to write, rehearse and rehearse again.

Here Smith has taken on Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ and whilst there has been some opposition from looking at the comments, he’s taken the time to reinterpret it and I think he’s done a great job.
