The Mahogany Minute is designed for those who haven’t got a huge amount of time on their hands, and artists who have even less. Every artist continues the same lines, and we all get to learn a little bit more about them.
This week we have the lovely Jake Isaac under the scrutiny of the Mahogany Minute. The London based singer-songwriter releases his brand new EP ‘Where We Belong’ on March 2nd. The EP, which is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed ‘War Child’, is a catchy mix of folk, soul and a little pop. He’s currently supporting Ella Eyre on her tour, which brings him to the Camden’s Roundhouse on March 11th.
Hi, my name is… Jake Isaac.
My parents… are originally from the Carribbean islands of Antigua & St Kitts.
I was born… in Middlesex Hospital, London.
Now you can find me… in Croydon, South London.
It all started when… I was in primary school and my old man used to absolutely RINSE his Paul Simon Tapes when he got in from work…those were the days, music really got under my skin!
Music has… had a massive impact on how I interpret life and on ways I express myself.
If I’m not in the studio or on stage… I’m normally at home watching CSI with a plate of cheesecake and a can of red stripe.
The music industry… ain’t always a smooth ride, but getting the privilege to play to amazing people at various gigs make it all worth it!
I’ve never been…skiing….don’t really fancy it either!
I wish… I had super powers.
One song… that takes me to another place is Rain Rain Rain by Lady Blacksmith Mambazo.
If I’ve learnt something in the past three years… nothing beats hard work.
This year’s highlight… so far must be playing Eurosonic Festival in Holland. Amazing time!
If you listen to my music for the first time… I hope you might end up finding yourself having a little dance when nobodys looking!
