Indie-pop as a genre can be a real mixed bag. Some of it is understated but furiously catchy songwriting at its best – think The Shins or The Cardigans and their shiny, singable pop loops. At other times it has the potential to verge into the cheesy.

Luckily, I have discovered Switzerland’s From Kid to dispel any lingering doubts about how good really well produced, glossy indie pop can be. A duo from Switzerland comprising the talents of Andrin Berchtold and Gian Reto Camenisch, From Kid make melodic pop music with a healthy dash of electronic edge – both of the upbeat, danceable kind and the more introspective, moody ilk. From Kid’s latest release ‘Underground’ falls into that latter camp, whilst earlier track  ‘Sun’ has a warmer, more driving beat.

However what I love most about From Kid is whatever the sound of the beat their voices ride over, those vocals still tug at the heart strings.
