Leaving for work this morning and seeing the cold, grey skies overhead, I needed something to inject a bit of cheer into what was shaping up to be another dreary day. Luckily I didn’t have to wait too long. A text from my brother pointed me in the direction of Donnie Trumpet and The Social Experiment’s new single, Sunday Candy. A listen later and my day had instantly brightened up.

With its steel pans, gospel style hand claps, gorgeous trumpet bursts (courtesy of Donnie Trumpet himself) and a triumphant chorus provided by Jamila Woods, Sunday Candy is guaranteed to leave you with a smile. And that’s before we even touch on Chance The Rapper rapping over all of the above about his love for his Grandma.

Comprised of Peter Cottontale, Nate Fox and childhood friends Donnie and Chance, The Social Experiment blessed us with a couple of gems earlier this year, including an incredible rework of the Arthur theme tune, Wonderful Everyday. Sunday Candy is the lead single from the band’s forthcoming album, Surf, and if this is a taster of what to expect from the rest of the LP, then we’re in for something truly special.
